Fender Kevin Shields Blender standard edition announced
My Bloody Valentine signature fuzz pedal
The new Fender Shields Blender fuzz pedal is the newly announced standard edition of the signature effect pedal. Following on from the much-hyped limited edition run of the same effect.
Fender Shields Blender
This standard Fender Shields Blender was one of the worst-kept secrets and everyone knew it was coming.
It is exactly the same circuit as the limited edition model that came out earlier this year, just without the fancy cardboard box and name plaque on the back.
Love or Hate?
Based on My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Shields’ idea of the ultimate Blender-style fuzz pedal.
The official demo video below gives an idea of how it sounds and it is a very specific fuzz tone, which some players will love and others will hate.
Octave Fuzz
It features two channels and three octaves of blendable, analogue fuzz tones. Based on the vintage Fender circuit combined with an all-new control set that adds more control to the original fuzz effect.
The core effect has controls for volume, sustain, tone and blend. Along with a foot-switchable, reactive voltage sag circuit controlled by the picking dynamics of the player.
Now the volume and added blend knob allow the player to set the right balance of clean and fuzz signals. Plus, the Shields Blender adds an Octave-Up push button to toggle the original octave-up fuzz voice on and off.
Four footswitches control, Bypass, Sag, Octave and Expand.
Verdict
It may not be the most practical fuzz pedal, but it could be a lot of fun if you like making walls of noise.
