Fender Lightweight Ash American Professional: It ain’t heavy!
New lightweight American models for 2019
Fender has just revealed a series of new models named the Lightweight Ash American Professional range. As though you couldn’t guess, their USP is their weight! Yet, Fender hasn’t actually told us yet exactly how light they are, so we will have to just guess…
Lightweight Ash American Professional
The new Fender Lightweight Ash American Professional range consists of a Stratocaster, Telecaster and a Jazz Bass. Each model uses select pieces of ash that Fender has chosen for their light weight.
Pro Spec
The standard hardware for each model is the same as the regular American Professional series. This includes the Tim Shaw-designed V-Mod pickups, treble-bleed circuits and narrow-tall frets. But the Lightweight Ash Tele comes with a special ‘modern C-to-D’ neck profile, a variation on the regular ‘Deep C’ of the American Professional series.
How Heavy?
If you prefer a lighter instrument, then these new American made models should certainly be on your radar. They appear to be a nice addition to the range. If you can go try a few out at your local Fender dealership, then you should be able to get an idea for exactly how they light they actually are.
The rest of the specifications is all fairly standard, so these will be ones to try out in person, I think. Or at least get your online dealer to send you weight information on each guitar before you place your order, which is something that has become more common in recent years anyway.
RRP – Strat & Tele both USD 1749, Jazz Bass USD 1849
