Fender Limited Edition Mike Kerr Jaguar Bass: Orange and Gold?
Royal Blood frontman gets limited edition signature bass
The Fender Limited Edition Mike Kerr Jaguar Bass comes in a Tiger Blood Orange finish and gold hardware. Will this signature bass get you any closer to those Royal Blood bass tones?
Mike Kerr Jaguar Bass
The Fender Mike Kerr Jaguar Bass is the limited edition signature model for the Royal Blood frontman
It has an alder body paired with a 30″ scale length, Modern C-shaped maple neck. It has 20 medium jumbo frets on a 9.5″ radius slab rosewood fretboard with white Pearloid block inlays.
Tigers Blood Orange
This signature bass comes in a Tigers Blood Orange finish and has gold hardware throughout. It looks quite gaudy to my eye, as that gold hardware isn’t a great match for the orange finish for me personally. Though, it isn’t my signature instrument and so I didn’t get to choose the finish. I’m guessing Mr Kerr loves it though.
A custom neck plate is outfitted with Royal Bloods’ original artwork. This features a tiger head and is a subtle nod to the band and there is also Mike’s signature on the rear of the headstock.
Twin Humbuckers
It comes fitted with a set of high-output humbuckers, with a Wide-Range in the centre and Mini-Humbucking pickup in the bridge position.
That is a pretty unique pickup configuration and should offer some interesting bass tones. They are wired via a Master Volume, and Master Tone along with a three-way pickup selector switch.
HiMass
Hardware includes a 4-saddle HiMass vintage-style bass bridge and a set of vintage-style open-back tuners. Plus, it comes as standard with a set of strap locks.
As mentioned above all the hardware, including the pickup covers is gold. I’m not a fan of gold hardware myself, but it certainly gives this signature bass a distinctive aesthetic.
The price includes a Fender deluxe gig bag and it also has the Tiger emblem, plus a leopard print on the inside.
Verdict
For a made-in-Mexico signature model, the price is about right at current Fender pricing standards. A hard case would have been nice and models like the Fender Troy Van Leeuwen signature Jazzmaster include one.
The bass has great specifications, though the colour scheme will possibly divide opinion. I quite like the main orange colour scheme though.
