Fender Limited Edition Suona Collection: Semi-Hollow Thinline models
Stratocaster, Telecaster and Jazz Bass Thinline models
These Fender Limited Edition Suona Collection are semi-hollow Thinline versions of a Stratocaster, Telecaster and Jazz Bass.
Limited Edition Suona Collection
The new Fender Limited Edition Suona Collection consists of three models, a Stratocaster, Telecaster and Jazz Bass.
Each one is based around semi-hollow construction, with a Thinline design that encompasses an f-hole and they all have the same nitrocellulose lacquer Violin Burst finish with matching headstocks.
F-Holes?
I’m just going to say that personally, I find these guitars look a bit ugly and I’m not a fan of the f-hole on the Strat or the J Bass models. Sure, the Tele looks fine and the design has always suited that body shape, but the other two look a bit odd aesthetically to my untrained eye.
They aren’t cheap and so you will have to really like this look to stump up the money for them. Let’s just hope that they sound better than they look.
As they fugly!
Telecaster
The Telecaster is visually the most appealing of the three models to me. Though, I think the Violin Burst finish of these models isn’t a great choice and looks quite anaemic in the official images from Fender.
This model has a semi-hollow ash body and has a bound Italian alpine spruce top, along with a roasted flame maple modern C neck. The ebony fretboard has a modern 7.25”-9.5” compound radius.
Hardware includes a fairly standard Fender vintage-style three-saddle Tele bridge with compensated brass saddles.
Pickups include a custom-designed Suona Tele and Fender Custom Shop Twisted Tele pickup.
MSRP – USD 2999 / EUR 2879*
Stratocaster
The Stratocaster comes with a semi-hollow ash body and has a bound Italian alpine spruce top, along with a roasted flame maple modern C neck. The ebony fretboard has a 7.25”-9.5” compound radius and the hardware includes a vintage-style synchronised tremolo system. Giving modern playability and vintage hardware specifications, so a mix of both worlds.
Pickups for this model are custom-designed Suona bridge pickup and a pair of Custom Shop ‘69s in the middle and neck.
MSRP – USD 2999 / EUR 2849*
Jazz Bass
The final model is the Jazz Bass and to me, this is the ugliest of the three models in this collection. It has the same semi-hollow ash body and bound Italian alpine spruce top, roasted flame maple modern C neck and 7.25”-9.5” compound-radius ebony fretboard, etc
Hardware includes a HiMass Vintage bridge and again the pickups for this bass are the custom-designed Suona Jazz Bass models.
MSRP – USD 3099 / EUR 2999*
Verdict
As you may have guessed already I am not really a fan of this look or this Violin Burst finish of these three models. I also think they are way overpriced for what is on offer. I’m sure many players will like them, but my personal take is that there are a lot of nicer-looking guitars out there for around $3k.
