Fender reissues new Limited Edition Made in Japan Super-Sonic for 2021
Fender branded Super-Sonic from Japan with high specs and Dragster BB pickups
Fender Japan has released a special Limited Edition version of the Super-Sonic, which takes the recent Squier Paranormal reissue and ups the build quality. So if you ever wanted one with Fender on the headstock instead of Squier, now is your chance.
Fender 2021 Limited Edition Made in Japan Super-Sonic
Fender Japan has yet another amazing limited edition run of a highly sought-after model, the Fender 2021 Limited Edition Made in Japan Super-Sonic. This new version has the Fender logo, rather than the normal Squier logo, on the headstock. The model features a basswood body, a U-shape maple neck, a rosewood fretboard with 22 frets, and a bone nut. You can get it on one of three colours: Blue Sparkle, Black, and White.
Dragster BB
The guitar comes loaded with a set of the Fender Dragster BB humbucking pickups, which should be a step up from the Squier Atomic pickups of the Paranormal version. Another change from the Squier version is the rosewood fretboard, instead of Indian Laurel. So a few nice upgrades all around.
Elsewhere you get a six-saddle vintage-style Synchronized Tremolo and vintage-style tuners, plus a three-ply Eggshell pickguard on all three colours. It has a classic Fender four-bolt neck, with a bullet-style truss rod adjuster.
Japan-Only?
The new models were shared via the Fender Japan Instagram account and a few have already turned up on dealers on Reverb. As Fender Japan has a reputation for making high-quality guitars, I would expect these to be a cut above the recent Paranormal Squier releases from back in July.
Along with the Daiki Tsuneta Swinger model from earlier today, I think these new Japanese models are pushing the Fender brand in the right direction. The US and European models are pretty dull in comparison.
As ever, I can see these models being highly coveted. Players really like the original ’90s Squier Super-Sonic model, with prices for originals, on the second-hand market, soaring in recent years. So having a Fender branded version would be just perfect for many lovers of this irregular-shaped twin-humbucker-loaded beast!

I’ve always loved the looks, but questioned the vintage tremolo. There should be a hardtail option (yes I know the tremolo can be blocked). A Super-Sonic Cabronita, anyone?
and on top of … orders being rejected if not to local addresses, foreign tourist visits are also forbidden for the foreseeable future
what a James Clavell scenario
