Fender has announced the official launch of their new Mexican-made Vintera range, based on vintage-specific models from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s.

This includes new Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jaguar, Mustang, Jazzmaster, Jazz Bass, Precision Bass, and Mustang Bass models.

These guitars all leaked online last week, so this announcement is now a surprise to anyone who is a regular reader at Gear News. The lineup consists of new Vintera Series versions of all the old favourites from the company’s back catalogue.

New colours

Built in Fender’s Mexico factory, these new guitars are all fairly traditional specifications, though with a few nice new colour combinations and on the occasional offset model, matching headstocks.

New colour options announced include Mocha, Fiesta Red, Seafoam Green, Inca Silver, Burgundy Mist, and Ice Blue Metallic.

Vintage or Modified?

You can get Vintera models in vintage correct versions, plus we have a few nice ‘modified’ models that include for example a Jaguar with humbuckers!

I like that you have Tim Shaw-designed pickups on the various models, which Fender states are specific to the decade in which the model is based.

Is it Vintage? Or is it Era?

My only real gripe with the series is the somewhat dodgy Vintera branding. Is it Vintage? Or is it Era? Apparently, it is vintage sounds for a modern era, but hey, nice guitars and some cracking colour combinations in amongst them all.

Well done Fender, you are providing some great-looking specified instruments at very reasonable prices.
