The new Fredric Effects Standard Fuzz Machine is based upon the sought-after Ibanez Standard Fuzz pedal. These handmade boutique pedals are all made in North London and at last offer an affordable alternative to the eye-wateringly expensive vintage second-hand Ibanez units.

Bruno/Mica Fuzz

Sometimes known as the Bruno/Mica Fuzz, the originals are sought after by fuzz aficionados, pushing up prices on auction sites in recent years.

Known for their raucaus, fuzzy tones, the original Ibanez pedals have been out now of production for a long time, so it is cool to see Fredric Effects ‘re-making’ them. This hand-built pedal uses modern construction methods, Fredric say, and should hopefully be pretty roadworthy.

’60s Tone

The Tone switch is used to select one of two very distinct settings for the fuzz. One is ’60s-garage-style fuzz while the other setting adds more cut and fizz.

The fuzz tones are likened to the infamous Shinei Fuzz and Univox SuperFuzz, so expect some pretty dirty, almost octave-like fuzz tones. This is my sort of fuzz and I would suggest you check out the official YouTube demo video below to see what it is all about.

Price-wise they are certainly a lot cheaper than the second hand price the originals are going for, with an RRP of GBP100.
