Universal Audio LA-2A Tube Compressor – What’s the deal?
The 1176 for all things drums and catching peaks, the Universal Audio LA-2A for endless amounts of buttery smooth compression on vocals and jumpy basslines – for decades, this was the quasi-standard in a lot of big-name studios and on a lot of albums we know and love. As an opto-compressor, the LA-2A isn’t the quickest, most transient-catching machine.

But when it’s on, it has a SOUND. Yes, we wrote that in capital letters because few other dynamic effects have such a recognizable, but most importantly, musical sound to them – without being an instrument! Many plug-in makers tried replicating the Universal Audio LA-2A over the years, but few came as close as the Universal Audio. Which was no surprise, given they’d invented the thing.

But for many years, this emulation of the Universal Audio LA-2A was only available when you used one of UAD’s Apollo interfaces with their dedicated DSP chips. Only last year did UAD open up their treasure chest of legendary emulations to the rest of us through their Spark subscription. But they also started offering individual VSTs.

FYI, this is a slightly-pared-down version of the LA-2A Silver (mkII), even though the GUI looks like the old mkI version. It just lacks the Emphasis control.

Im wondering if I can get AAX/AU/VST/ files of it cuz I cant use the AU Connect App on my Capitan OSX. The earliest Connect version (1.1.0?) doesn’t work on my OS. My AU account says I own the plugin (Native kind of LA2A)
