Friedman JEL-50 Jake E Lee Signature 50-Watt Head
Jake E Lee get another signature Friedman release
The new Friedman JEL-50 Jake E Lee Signature 50-Watt Head has just dropped, and it sounds pretty wild. It follows Friedman’s recently released preamp pedal and the previously limited run amp heads.
JEL-50 Jake E Lee Signature 50-Watt Head
The Friedman JEL-50 is the new Jake E Lee signature 50-watt head, and it looks very appealing with that standout red tolex finish with white piping. They have also released a matching 130-Watt 2×12 cab with Celestion G12M-65 Creambacks.
Of course, it will be a rocking amp, as it is the model for the ex-Ozzy Osborne guitarist, who played on 1983’s Bark at the Moon and 1986’s Ultimate Sin and is known for having some fantastic classic rock/metal amp tones.
It is powered by three 12AX7 preamp tubes, a pair of EL34s, and a custom-wound transformer made in the USA.
Two Voicings
This 50-watt all-tube amplifier head has two channels: the JEL channel has Gain, Master, a 3-way Bright switch, and a Hi/Lo push-pull gain switch. The Plexi channel has Gain, Volume, and a 3-way Bright switch. The EQ controls (Bass, Middle, and Treble) are shared between both channels. A single-button foot switch is provided for channel selection.
Thump & Presence
The amp also has a Thump knob on the rear which varies lowered response of the amps power section, and a Presence that adjusts the high-end content of the amps power section. As always with Friedman, it has the ultra-transparent series effects loop and is perfect for use with your favourite stompboxes.
I like the official demo video tones, and I can see this new 50-watt model being popular with fans of that juiced Plexi-tone and anyone who wants to rock out.
Friedman has worked with Jake E Lee on several products now, and they have his tone dialed in nicely.
