Ohmforce Frohmage – these words will send you right down memory lane if you were producing music in the early 2000s. After making many of its plugins available for free earlier this year, Ohmforce returns with Frohmager, an all-new filter that builds on this legacy but adds a powerful modulation engine including an ADSR envelope, envelope follower, and cross-modulating LFOs. There’s even a macro system for intuitive real-time control. Missed Frohmage? You’re going to love Frohmager!

Frohmager is available for macOS and Windows in AU, VST, and AAX formats.

This cool little drum machine ROMpler from Sample Science puts the sounds of the Elka DrumStar 80 of the mid-80s at your fingertips. 80s DrumStar includes all 32 sounds of the original machine, along with level, pan, decay, and tune controls per voice. There’s even a bunch of effects like vinyl and tape emulations, distortion, delay, reverb, and sub bass, as well as a filter and LFO for additional sound shaping and modulation. Put on your spandex pants and indulge in the sounds of the ‘80s!

80s DrumStar is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, and AU formats.

Crowbait GnomeDistort: Not your average distortion plugin

The developer calls GnomeDistort a “weird little distortion plugin”, but there’s actually a lot going on here. It begins with a pair of high and low cut filters and a peak filter for pre-processing the signal and preparing it for the powerful distortion stage. The distortion itself uses a waveshaper with “several unique and strange transforming functions”. This means that it doesn’t sound like your run-of-the-mill distortion, but rather provides an interesting and unique take on the effect.

GnomeDistort is currently available as a VST3 plugin for Windows. If you’re familiar with XCode, you should be able to compile a macOS version yourself – in fact, the developer is asking for assistance with a Mac version on GitHub.
