Gibson B.B. King Lucille Legacy in Transparent Ebony announced
Lucille gets a fancy new outfit for 2022
The new Gibson Custom Shop B.B. King Lucille Legacy in Transparent Ebony has been officially announced today. It takes Lucille up a notch looks-wise with a fancy new finish. But is it too much?
Gibson B.B. King Lucille Legacy
This new B.B. King Lucille Legacy from the Gibson Custom Shop comes finished in a very fancy Transparent Ebony gloss nitrocellulose lacquer over a 3-ply Figured Maple/Poplar/Maple top, back and sides. The model has a Slim taper, long tenon mahogany neck, with a 12″ radius ebony fretboard and 22 frets.
All hardware is in gold and includes an ABR-1 bridge and a TP-6 tail piece with fine tuners, plus a set of Grover Tulip tuners. You also get a bound Tortoise pickguard and a gold engraved “B.B. King” truss rod cover, to let you know who it is in honour of.
Custombuckers
Pickups are pair of Gibson’s Custombuckers, wired via two Volume, and two Tone controls, plus a 6 position Mono Varitone Switch. Gibson uses 500K CTS Audio-Taper Potentiometers, with Paper in Oil Bumblebee capacitors, and a hand-wired loom. Just as you should expect for this model.
At USD 6999.99, it’s not cheap, but it is quite special and a lot of work will have gone into the construction by hand of this guitar. Sure, it is high-end and made in the USA, but personally, I prefer the standard all-black Lucille, and find this new Transparent Ebony with figured maple just a little too over-the-top for my tastes. But your mileage may vary, and I bet it is a lovely playing instrument either way.
RRP – USD 6999.99
