Gibson Dave Grohl Explorer – New Signature?
The Foo Fighters are out touring, and some keen-eyed fans have spotted Dave Grohl sporting a new Gibson Explorer model with a difference. Could we see a Gibson Dave Grohl Explorer?
Dave Grohl Explorer
Dave Grohl was always seen playing a Gibson Explorer in the early years of the Foo Fighters. Then he got his Trini Lopez-inspired signature model, and we haven’t seen him playing an Explorer for quite some time.
Potential new Signature model?
The Foos played a London Stadium show on 20 June, and Grohl can be seen playing a new Gibson Explorer with just a single volume control. He played this model during Stacked Actors, a track from the band’s 1999 third album There Is Nothing Left To Lose.
Luckily, the video uploaded by Fastphotos showed the guitar in relatively good detail, and we can see the differences between a regular Gibson Explorer model and this customised version.
Single Volume Control
At the end of 2023, he played that same song live while on tour in Australia using a Gibson Firebird that had been modified to have just a single volume knob. Therefore, we could assume he has asked Gibson to create a custom Explorer for his live sets.
This could suggest that a new signature model may be produced at some point in the future.
Epiphone
The recent release of his Epiphone signature DG-335 in Pelham Blue shows that the Grohl name will sell a lot of guitars. It makes sense for Gibson to offer him signature models for just about any guitar he would want.
Could it happen?
Given his band’s early history with the Gibson Explorer, this new single-volume control model in black makes sense.
Plus, they could also release an Epiphone version of this classic design for a more affordable option for the masses.
