ES-335 Custom Color: Watermelon, Ocean Blue, and more!

The classic plain top semi-hollow is available in four colors: Goldtop, Watermelon, Spearmint, and Ocean Blue – all made in the USA. The first is exclusively available from Gibson, but the other three are also available at Thomann. The ES-335 Custom Color is a classic in terms of wood and interior.

You get a maple body, mahogany neck (rounded C profile), rosewood fretboard, and typical F-holes and dot inlays. The legendary blues sound is practically built in here. Let’s look at the numbers, which also remain unchanged: 628 mm scale length, 22 frets, nut width of 42.8 mm.

For the ES-335 Custom Color’ hardware, Gibson relies on Vintage Deluxe Keystone tuners and an ABR-1 bridge. The pickups are still two calibrated T-type humbuckers in bridge and neck position. There are separate volume and tone controls for both, as well as a three-way switch for changing and combining them. Each models costs €3,599 at Thomann*, and a case is included.

ES-335 Figured Custom Color: Blood Moon Burst and Honey Amber

Compared to the ES-335 Custom Color, the Figured models feature a denser AAA top grain and a quartersawn mahogany neck with a rounded C profile. So everything is a bit more traditional and elegant. However, the models are pretty similar in terms of the materials used.

The rosewood fretboard is also used here, and the dimensions are the same. Two calibrated T-style humbuckers are used with the familiar controls for tone and volume. Gibson relies on CTS pots and Orange Drop capacitors for them. The nickel hardware also includes an ABR-1 bridge with a titanium saddle and Vintage Tulip tuners.

As with the ES-335 Custom Color, the most exciting thing about the Figured Custom Color models are the colors. Blood Moon Burst in particular is such a feast for the eyes! Honey Amber, on the other hand, is more classic, but with its brighter color, the grain is more visible. Gibson also list the colors Ocean Water Perimeter and Deep Ocean Burst. Blood Moon Burst* and Honey Amber* are available from Thomann for €3,999 each.
