Gibson introduces new Generation Collection acoustics with Player Port design
An affordable new acoustic guitar range from Gibson
The Gibson Generation Collection includes four brand new acoustic guitars featuring a soundhole design on the upper bout that the company is calling the Player Port. Manufactured in Bozeman, Montana, the prices for the new models starts at EUR 999.
Gibson Generation Collection
The Generation Collection from Gibson is a new range of made in USA acoustic guitars, that includes the G-00, G-45, G-Writer, and G-200. All models come with walnut backs and sides, and Sitka spruce tops. The G-00 and G-45 are straight up acoustic models, whilst the G-200 EC and G-Writer EC come equipped with LR Baggs pickup systems, binding and fancier inlays. All of the new models come in a natural finish with satin necks.
Player Port
The Player Port aims the sound up towards the player, so I suppose you could say it allows you to hear what you sound like with more accuracy, than you would with just a standard acoustic soundhole. Gibson says this idea comes from a draft from a 1964 in-house archive, and is intended to ensure that you perceive the instrument exactly as your audience does. You do still have the regular soundhole, so your audience/microphone also gets to hear you strumming!
Slim and Light
The body of all four models is slightly thinner than you would normally expect, as is the neck profile, which should make them particularly comfortable to hold and play. The advertising agency has this time christened the neck profile “Advanced Response“. The TUSQ saddle and Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners should also ensure rock-solid tuning stability.
Left-handed versions at no extra charge
A big compliment to Gibson is that not only are there left-handed versions available on launch, but that they are also available at no extra cost. And the inclusion of a gig bag with each model means you can easily transport them to your next gig.
I look forward to hearing reviews of these new Gibson Generation Collection acoustics and seeing what players think of the Player Port. The price point is certainly attractive, and will appeal to many players looking for a USA-made acoustic guitar.
