Gibson debuts Jerry Cantrell ‘Wino’ Les Paul Custom with Murphy Lab ageing
Murphy Labs-aged signature model launched for Alice In Chains guitarist
Gibson has just released the new Murphy Lab-aged replica of Jerry Cantrell’s famous Wine Red ‘Wino’ Les Paul Custom. This signature model has a Fishman Powerbridge piezo and is limited to 100 units worldwide. Let’s check it out!
Jerry Cantrell Wine Red ‘Wino’ Les Paul Custom
The guitar will need no introduction to fans of Alice In Chains, having frequently been used by Mr Cantell during his time with the band. If you’re an Alice In Chains fan, this replica may have a lot of appeal for you. But getting your hands on one may not be easy. With such a small number available, this model could go the same way as the recent Adam Jones Silverburst Custom which sold out immediately.
Specifications
This guitar has a plain maple top and a mahogany body with nine-hole weight relief. The Custom Cantrell mahogany neck joins the body with the hide-glued long neck tenon. The ebony fretboard has the standard 12″ radius, along with MOP block inlays, plus a set of 22 medium jumbo frets.
The guitar has been aged by Murphy Labs, with aged gold hardware and an aged Wine Red finish. It comes with a ‘Jerry Cantrell’ truss rod cover and features a set of Grover tuners and a Corian nut. Each guitar also comes with a certificate of authenticity and will be hand-signed on the back of the headstock by Cantrell himself.
Pickups and Wiring
This Wino re-issue comes fitted with a set of Gibson 490R/498T humbuckers at the bridge and neck, plus a Fishman Powerbridge piezo pickup system. The wiring uses a three-way pickup selector, plus a pair of volume controls for each of the humbuckers, a master tone control, and a third volume control positioned in the bridge tone knob position that controls the output of the piezo.
Not cheap
There’s no sugar-coating this: it’s one expensive guitar. And yet I think they will sell every single one of them! Fans of Jerry Cantrell and Alice In Chains will want this one for sure. You can order one via our affiliate partner Thomann.
