Gibson Moderne teased via Instagram
Gibson working on new updated Moderne?
A new Gibson Moderne? Gibson brand president Cesar Gueikian has teased a contemporary version of the Moderne. The guitar is being wielded by Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. The Instagram post shows Hammett using the updated design live with the band at a recent show at BottleRock Napa Valley Festival.

Cesar Gueikian loves sharing stuff via his Instagram account. One of his latest posts with Kirk Hammett of Metallica shows off a new angular update to the Moderne design.
The original Moderne was going to be released at the 1958 Summer NAMM show. Along with the new Flying V and Explorer designs. But was never put into production, as was thought to be a little too modern looking.

Metallica fans spotted Kirk wielding the guitar at the BottleRock Napa Valley Festival on 27 May. And you can see him playing the guitar in the video below. The band were performing the track Battery and Kirk plays the black Moderne model throughout.
“Experimental Prototype from the Gibson Lab. The concept developed with Kirk was ‘modernize the Moderne’. Will we release it in the future? We don’t know (yet)”’s – Cesar Gueikian
Gueikian’s Instagram post confirmed the guitar is a new Moderne prototype that Gibson has been developing with Hammett, though whether or not the model will get a release we don’t know for sure yet. This is one of many new models Kirk has been seen playing live of late.
With the purple Flying V which is supposedly a new signature model, potentially coming soon.
