The Gibson Richie Faulkner Flying V Custom has officially been revealed at last, after being teased for the best part of a year by Gibson and Mr Faulkner. This Custom Shop model has some pretty amazing specifications and every guitar sold also donates part of profits to some of Richie’s favourite charities.

This Gibson Custom Shop Richie Faulkner Flying V Custom looks stunning in Pelham Blue nitrocellulose finish and that white one-piece double pickguard complements it perfectly.

Both Faulkner and Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian have been slowly teasing the model on Instagram over the last year or so. And I think that it was worth the wait.

Specifications

This Flying V Custom has an impressive solid one-piece mahogany body, paired with a set mahogany neck that has a custom Faulkner-neck profile, and a 24.75” scale length. The neck has a 12” radius ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl block inlays, it is fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets and has a Falcon logo at the 12th fret.

EMGs

Key features for this signature guitar include the Judas Priest etched truss rod cover. Plus, a double-locking Floyd Rose vibrato, a set of Grover tuners and a pair of Faulkner’s brand new signature active EMG humbuckers.

A single volume knob and a three-way switch are all the controls it needs. The battery box for the active pickups is on the rear and it has a recessed jack output on the inside upper horn.

Case Candy

They ship in a Gibson hard case and come with a certificate of authenticity. Plus, it comes with a case candy bag with Faulkner-logo sunglasses, a Richie Faulkner Flying V patch, a custom Faulkner logo pennant, a pick tin with picks, and three enamel pins.

Verdict

I actually own the Epiphone Richie Faulkner Flying V Custom from 2017 and that is an insanely high-spec guitar and so this new Custom Shop model has a lot to live up to. I’m guessing that this will be a premium instrument and so worth every penny.

A standard Custom Shop Flying V Custom is already an expensive guitar at $5499. Therefore, with an added Floyd Rose, a set of custom signature EMGs, a custom neck profile and this great colour this model actually works out pretty much where it should be in terms of the price.

But, then you have to factor in that Richie is also donating some of the profits to a few charities, and that is a very nice gesture.

Only 100 of these ultra-premium Flying V models are being made, so I expect them to become very collectable with fans of Judas Priest, Faulkner and Flying Vs.

As we all know he suffered a heart attack on stage whilst playing with Judas Priest and survived thanks to a team of specialist doctors. I am just so glad he is still around and rocking hard. The man is humble beyond belief and just one of the true gentlemen of rock.

The guitar looks amazing and Faulkner is a living legend!
