Gordon Smith Guitars introduces its first offset model: the Gatsby Launch Edition
The UK based company launches a new model
I first wrote about the at-the-time unnamed Gordon Smith Guitars offset model back in April, when an image of it was shared on Facebook. Back then, there was little to no information on this offset. Well, today Gordon Smith has officially launched its Gatsby model, and we have specifications at last.
Gordon Smith Guitars Gatsby Launch Edition
The UK-made Gatsby Launch Edition is a whole new model for Gordon Smith Guitars. The offset guitar comes with either a Poplar or Swamp Ash body, the latter costing an extra £100. You also get a maple neck and fingerboard, with 22 medium jumbo frets and a dual-action truss rod. The bodies have a gloss finish, with some eye-catching colours on offer, while the necks are satin for smooth playability.
Finishes
There are five solid colours available: Jet Black, Vintage White, Cromer (light blue), Rockingham (a metallic blue) and Merlot (red) on the poplar bodies. The ash bodies have two transparent finish options: Real Ale (red) and Tobacco (a sunburst). Depending on the main body colour, the pickguard is either black, white, Pearloid or Tortoiseshell.
Hardware and electronics
Hardware includes a set of Gotoh SG381 – 05 tuners, and an HK41 vibrato paired with a low profile brass roller bridge. The pickups are a pair of Gordon Smith’s “home wound chrome-covered GS P90” pickups. Each guitar also comes adorned with a Custom Launch Edition neck plate.
Launch Edition
The guitars ship with a gig bag, a special Commemorative Launch Edition Certificate, and an exclusive Gordon Smith Gatsby t-shirt. I’m a fan of UK made guitars (as we have some great builders here) as well as offset guitars, and these look like pretty fine to me. The model is also priced relatively reasonably, for what is essentially a small company and not a mass-produced factory-made guitar.
You can hear the Gatsby in action in the demo video below. I think they sound great!
RRP – GBP 1299 with a Poplar body and solid colour, GBP 1399 with Swamp Ash body and a trans finish

Wow! Every single one of those colors look amazing. Don’t think I would be able to choose just one of them if I had too.
That metallic blue does it for me.
