The Gretsch Limited Malcolm Young Signature “The Beast” Jet is a recreation of the legendary guitar played by the AC/DC guitarist and the sound that formed the backbone of the band’s sound.
Malcolm Young Signature “The Beast” Jet
Gretsch has issued a limited edition Malcolm Young Signature “The Beast” Jet model. It comes in a Firebird Red finish with gold-aged hardware and a black pickguard. Essentially, a non-molested version of the stripped-back guitar that Malcolm was known for playing with AC/DC. It can be seen in this original format in the AC/DC video for It’s A Long Way To The Top.

Chambered
It is based around a 2” deep, double-cutaway chambered mahogany body with a maple top. This model comes with a 12”-radius bound ebony fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets (plus a zero fret), a set of aged Pearloid Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, and a bone nut.

TV Jones
The pickup set is a TV Jones Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity in the bridge, a TV Jones Starwood humbucker middle position and a TV Jones Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity neck pickup. Malcolm originally added the middle pickup in this early version of the guitar.
Hardware includes a harmonica-style Adjusto-Matic bridge with pinned ebony base, a ‘60s Jet vibrato tailpiece, plus a set of Schaller die-cast tuners and G-arrow control knobs.
It has had input from Malcolm’s nephew Stevie Young, who helped Gretsch get this tribute guitar off the ground. Malcolm Young passed away in 2017 aged 64 and this guitar in all its iterations is commonly associated with him. The previous release * from Gretsch is Malcolm’s heavily modded and stripped-back version of this guitar.
