Gretsch Nigel Hendroff Signature Penguin with Tim Shaw pickups
Loaded with Tim Shaw designed BT65 Broad’Tron pickups
The new Gretsch Nigel Hendroff Signature Penguin is the latest release from the brand and comes in two distinct finish options. Players can choose from Amber Flame or Dark Cherry Metallic Flame finishes, but which one would you choose?
Nigel Hendroff Signature Penguin
This Gretsch Nigel Hendroff Signature Penguin model is available in either Amber Flame or Dark Cherry Metallic Flame finish. Both suit the model nicely and so it could be a hard choice for potential buyers. This signature guitar comes fitted with a set of Tim Shaw-designed BT65 Broad’Tron pickups, which are described as being highly versatile by Gretsch.
The pickups have a master volume and tone control, plus a three-way selector switch. It should all help keep things nice and simple, which in my opinion is a good thing with this type of instrument.
Chambered
The guitar’s construction consists of a chambered mahogany body with a laminated flame maple top. This is then paired with a mahogany set-neck that has an ebony 12″ radius fretboard. The neck itself has 22 medium jumbo frets and a set of Mother of Pearl big block markers, plus a bone nut.
The guitar’s neck also has some neat tortoise white/black/white binding, as does the body with tortoise white/black/white /black binding. Which all adds to the subtle opulence of this signature model.
Rock Solid
Hardware includes a Bigsby B7CP String-Thru vibrato and a set of Grover Imperial locking tuners. I would expect the guitar to hold tuning nicely with this setup and so it could be a pretty sweet ride.
Overall, it is a lovely-looking guitar and I bet Niigewl Hendroff is proud of it. Certainly, one to check out for Gretsch fans, and you can hear it in action in the demo video below.
