Guitar Gear Gems: An oddball Burls Art pencils guitar and a Fender featuring crystals
Coloured pencils, Crystals of Darkness and more
This week on Guitar Gear Gems we have a couple of odd looking guitars. One uses construction materials that include coloured pencils from Burls Art. The other one, a Fender, features Crystals of Darkness and Light. There is also a new smaller, compact pro level volume pedal from Lehle.
Pencil Tone
Burls Art has become known for his extravagant guitar builds made using some pretty unconventional materials. His debut was a bolt-on neck guitar made of coloured pencils embedded within epoxy resin. Now, only a few years later, Burls Art has managed to create more adventurous builds, using more advanced construction techniques.
Thru Neck
This new model consists of 2000 pencils, but this time the thru neck is also made using the same method. I think you have to admire his dedication to making unique guitars. Though I do wonder sometimes if he has a pencil fetish?

Lehle Mono Volume S
The Lehle Mono Volume S is smaller than the standard model without S in the name. There is no mechanical wear, thanks to magnetic sensors. Plus, it can also be controlled via USB MIDI. This compact mono volume pedal is pretty high-end and should be built to last, making it perfect for touring musicians that need a compact volume solution. The added up to +12 dB Boost is also a handy addition. It could be a great addition to your guitar rig.
Final Fantasy XIV Stratocaster
The Fender Final Fantasy XIV Stratocaster has finally been released in Europe and the USA. Originally, this release was exclusive to Japan, though Fender stated it would get a worldwide release in 2022. That time has now come, with the model being officially announced as being available outside Japan. If you are looking for a very unique Stratocaster, and love the Final Fantasy line, this is the guitar for you!
Crystals
The guitar body has an all-black finish, with translucent sections of blue and purple “crystals”, representing the game’s Crystals of Darkness and Light. It certainly is a pretty impressive looking instrument, if you like that mystical aesthetic. I’m sure it will become highly collectible in the future, as Final Fantasy has a huge worldwide fanbase. I bet many of those fans are also guitar players, so it could be a winner for Fender.
