Guitar Gear Gems: Deluxe Melanie Faye DC signature and more
A metallic surf green semi-hollow signature and more
This week we check out the latest D’Angelico signature model for Melanie Faye, the new affordable Mattoverse Desktop Saturator and finally, the latest Foxgear Steve Lukather signature effect pedal.
Melanie Faye signature
The D’Angelico Deluxe Melanie Face DC is a semi-hollow limited-run signature model. Only 50 guitars are being produced and each one comes in a metallic surf green colour. It uses a semi-hollow laminated maple construction that the company is known for and looks quite stunning in this special finish.
Kent Armstrong
This model features a three-piece set neck with a C profile and a 24.75” scale length. It is powered by a pair of Kent Armstrong 57 Icon humbuckers.
I like the look of this particular model and I think that it offers some interesting takes on the D’Angelico Guitars formula.
MSRP – USD 1999.99

Desktop Saturator
This Mattoverse Desktop Saturator is a more affordable version of their $229 Solar Sound Overdrive. Coming in at $79, the Desktop version is significantly cheaper. Yet still offers the same solar-powered oddball crazy drive and fuzz tones.
Solar Dirt
The desktop unit is controlled via voltage for gain, and a volume knob plus has a true bypass button.
It can be used to process guitar or bass, and probably anything else with a quarter-inch jack output. As ever the video below says more than a thousand words.
MSRP – USD 79
Gurus Echosex 3º
The Foxgear Gurus Echosex 3º is a new Steve Lukather signature effect pedal based on the Binson Echorec echo unit. The original vintage echo effect is one of Lukather’s favourites and he has used it in just about everything over the years.
Modern Recreation
This new pedal recreates the original echo effect and they have even marked Steve’s favourite setting (highlighted in green) on the pedal. If you want that vintage Echorec tone, then this is an affordable and potentially more reliable way to achieve it.
The internal tube runs at 262V just like the original Binson Echorec and so it should get very close to the tone of those vintage units.
I like the idea of having a modern recreation without all the hassle and you can hear the standard edition in the video below.
MSRP – USD 429
