Guitar Gear Gems: Fruit & Veg powered pedals?
Oddball pedals, signature Charvel basses and pink Strats!
Guitar Gear Gems this week contains some interesting new releases including fruit and vegetable-powered pedals and the latest Charvel signature bass model for Frank Bello. Plus, the Hello Kitty guitar phenomenon where prices of used 2006 Squire models are soaring.
Mattoverse FloraVolt
The FloraVolt is probably nothing more than a feasibility study, but it sounds in the Instagram post as if Mattoverse is actually planning a kind of series of the FloraVolt pedal. The name is still preliminary and the housing size does not seem to be final yet, but the concept is in place.
Fruit & Veg Tone?
According to Mattoverse “the fruit/veg is acting somewhat like a capacitor but it also provides the power for the pedal not just storing it.”
It is certainly odd, but we will keep you informed if it makes its way into production.
Charvel Frank Bello Signature Pro-Mod So-Cal Bass PJ IV
The new Frank Bello Signature Pro-Mod So-Cal Bass PJ IV is the latest signature bass model from the brand. This one comes loaded with a set of EMG Frank Bello Signature P/J pickups. Each pickup has its own dedicated volume control, so you can dial in your tones to taste.
Anthrax
Having played with both Anthrax and Helmet, Frank knows what he likes. This model has a poplar body finished in Gloss Black and a graphite-reinforced maple neck with black block inlays. It has a 12″-16″ compound radius fretboard and 20 jumbo frets.
It also has a Charvel Hi Mass bridge and a set of open-gear tuners. The standout feature. on this signature model is the one-ply mirror pickguard.

Hello Kitty Phenomenon
According to a certain online used gear site, the price of the limited edition 2006 Squier Hello Kitty models has soared in 2022. It would appear that these bright pink single humbucker Stratocasters have more than doubled since 2019!
TheDooo
Many people believe the YouTuber TheDooo, a guitarist with over six million subscribers could be the cause for this abrupt pricing anomaly.
He often shares clips of himself baiting strangers on the chat site Omegle. Armed with his somewhat innocent-looking pink Hello Kitty axe, he pretends to be a beginner before he eventually unleashes shred guitar licks and leads on unsuspecting watchers.
