Jane’s Addiction no more?

The Alt-Rock band Jane’s Addiction had an unfortunate end to a run of live shows when lead singer Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro onstage during their performance in Boston.

The singer had been acting erratically before the incident and had also been observed by audiences forgetting lines and looking a little bewildered at previous live shows.

Nothing’s Shocking

As a long-time fan of the band (I started following them around 1987), I have seen them live many times. When they are on form, they are a magical experience that weaves a blend of musical influences into something unique.

Unfortunately, they have always been a little explosive and have fallen out before, with the band splitting up many times. This latest reunion set of concerts featured the original lineup, with Stephen Perkins on drums and bassist Eric Avery holding down the low end with his rolling basslines.

The band has now made official social media statements stating it is cancelling the rest of the tour, including this one on Navarro’s Instagram page.

Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.

Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.

We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.

Our hearts are broken.

Imminent Redemption

Perry may be unwell or suffering from the rigours of touring and the temptations of being in a world-famous rock band. Farrell has a long history of substance abuse, and he is now in his mid-sixties, so it may all be catching up with him.

He has made a public apology and appears very upset with his behaviour.

This would be a painful way for the band to go out, so as a fan, I hope they can reconcile and move forward. They recently released a new song, Imminent Redemptionand Navarro shared via Instagram (before the fight) that more recorded material is coming.

When they are firing on all cylinders, they are glorious to watch live.

Let’s hope that Perry gets some help and that they all put this behind them. This band deserves to keep making music and entertaining fans worldwide.

Noel Gallagher’s Epiphone

We looked at this Sotheby’s auction a few weeks back, and the sale was projected to be between  £60,000 and £80,000. Well, it sold for a little more than that projection…

Noel Gallagher's Iconic Epiphone Les Paul

Noel Gallagher’s Epiphone Les Paul, which he used to record Oasis’ iconic 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe, has sold at auction for a whopping £132,000 ($173,500)!

Epiphone guitars are normally seen as affordable instruments, so this is a huge markup on a guitar that would have retailed for around £500 new in the 1990s.

His hollow-bodied EA-250 also sold for £48,000 (approximately $63,077). This guitar was on the band’s debut single, Supersonic, so again, it is a well-known instrument.

Finally, the Gibson Flying V, once owned by Johnny Marr and then by Noel, sold for £36,000 (approximately $47,291).

You can buy a brand new Epiphone Les Paul with a cherry sunburst finish for much less at Thomann!

Envy Pro Overdrive NV-9

Mythos Pedals has just launched the new Envy Pro Overdrive NV-9, their take on a Tubescreamer overdrive. They have added a heap of updates to the circuit, making it far more flexible.

More than just a Tubescreamer

It has the standard Level, Tone, and Drive controls and adds more flexibility with a switch for Lows, which, as the name suggests, adds more low-end presence. Plus, a Clip switch for reducing compression and adding a more transparent tone.

Swapping Op-Amps

There is also a socket-able op-amp that allows users to experiment with swapping out this chip. If you like playing with your overdrives and tinker, this could be for you.

Does the world need another TS-style overdrive? Probably not, but if you want one with more features and control, this pedal has to be on your list.

Preferred Porno For Pyros to Jane’s Addiction, but at least Perry has apologised. He’s a bit long in the tooth for band fights, though you’re never too old for LSD, perhaps not when you’re playing to a crowd of fans, Perry. There’s rock n roll, and then there’s losing yer cool on a stage. Even Jim Morrison, who was 50 times more gone than Perry Farrel, didn’t blow it on stage, often. Porno For Pyros, Perry, but fight the man, not the band. 😎

The author of this article provides little context this fluff piece of pseudo journalism and then attempts to shill gear via affiliate links by association to what the band uses!

Perry’s wife has an awful heavy hand in his demise and difficulty with substance abuse. She routinely ridicules him for not living the “rock & roll” lifestyle as she did again in her awful scribe, thus he has been fighting this battle without a true ally.

Let’s hope he dies get the help he desperately needs and the process loses the drugs and the in-house pusher, his “wife”.
