Guitar Gear Gems: KittycasterFX, Alchemy MK II and El Hombre
Some cool new stomp boxes for your delectation
This week on Guitar Gear Gems we take a look at the latest snippets of guitar-based news from the last week. Including the launch of a new guitar pedal company, plus some sweet new stompboxes for you to drool over.
KittycasterFX
KittycasterFX consists of old Catalinbread employees; a perhaps controversial company rife with disagreements, divisions and staff turnover. Howard Gee in particular should be familiar to many because he was Catalinbread’s video mascot for a long time. Everyone in the new company combines their affection for cats, hence the name. On April 19 the first two effect pedals will be launched: Tremdriver Preamp / Harmonic Tremolo and Groovy Wizard Fuzz Driver.
One to keep an eye on?
I think this will be one of those companies to watch throughout 2022 and one you may see more of in Guitar Gear Gems; this team was already known for creating some great effects circuits when they worked at their former employer.
RRP USD 399 Tremdriver, USD 299 Groovy Wizard

VS Audio Effects Alchemy MK II Chorus
The Alchemy MK II Chorus pedal from VS Audio Effects is an analogue chorus effect circuit that is completely digitally controlled, therefore bringing the best of both worlds to players. Analogue tones, with digital flexibility for control.
It has a stereo BBD analogue audio path for the chorus, along with six different individual presets; fair to say then, it is pretty flexible. Additionally, you get tap tempo control and a delay control which are all handled in the digital realm. Nice.

J.Rockett Audio El Hombre
If you aspire to cop some classic ZZ Top tones, then this new J.Rockett Audio El Hombre is going to be one for you to check out for sure. With three controls labelled Volume, Bite and Gain, it really couldn’t be much simpler.
Dumble to Plexi
The controls appear to be quite interactive and have a lot of scope to them as well. For example, that Bite knob will allow the overdrive to get real mean and trebly when cranked clockwise. Whereas the Gain knob can go from smooth Dumble-esque tones through to more Plexi-style drive tones. Especially, if you dime that Bite control at the same time.
