Mateus Asato

Neural DSP has teamed up with guitarist Mateus Asato for their latest Archetype signature software package. It offers a take on the Brazilian guitarist’s signature tones and allows players/producers to access them in a DAW environment or as a standalone package.

Signature Tones

The main signature tones are based on three virtual amplifiers; Vintage Clean, Modern Clean, and Lead. Along with a set of effects that include a Compressor, two Overdrives, and a Modulation.

It also has a 9-band Graphic EQ, Cab Sim, and an IR loader plus a set of Post Effects. These Post Effects include an Echo and Reverb.

This latest signature set of sounds looks a lot more accessible than the Tom Morello bundle they released, though it does also sound very middle of the road.

I would guess this could be one for fans or producers that require a good solid guitar tone, without too much overbearing character.

A free 14-day trial is available on the Neural DSP site, so users can try it before they buy.

Hour Glass Dual Studio Compressor

Jackson Audio has just announced its new Hour Glass Dual Studio Compressor and it looks pretty versatile. It is billed as an analogue dual compressor pedal.

With controls for Comp 1 and Comp 2, Blend 1 and Blend 2, plus Vol 1 and Vol 2. Essentially two sets of controls, one for each side of the compressor and with two footswitches, labelled Comp 1 and Comp 2.

It also features two sets of three-position Attack and Treble switches on the sides of the unit.

Dual Compression

Users can then choose from Fast, Medium, or Slow Attack time options to tailor the pedal’s overall response to their playing style.

Then they can use the Treble toggle switch to select Flat, Medium, or High boost options to help shape the high-frequency tones.

It could be useful for any players that need two sets of compression settings. An example given is for guitarists that gig and require one compressor for single coil guitars, and the other compressor for humbucker guitars.

The neat function of this small combo will be Bluetooth audio streaming which allows it to be used with a smartphone, for playback of backing tracks.

Making it a useful tool for practice and home use, and the fact that it is so compact. It offers a 30-watt RMS power output and a Post EQ XLR output with ground lift, plus a headphone out.

It measures 310 x 330 x 240 mm and weighs in at a very reasonable 7.3kg.

This all adds up to a pretty flexible little bass amp and one that is not a lot of money.

MSRP – EUR 225
