Powers Electric

The new Powers Electric brand has been soft-launched with the A-Type model. The company was started by Taylor CEO and President Andy Powers and is a boutique American-built guitar company with bespoke hardware and pickups.

Inspired by a life spent soaking up SoCal music, surf and ‘autocraft’ culture, is how these new guitars are described.

Hollow

The design is a fully enclosed hollow body electric and has the aforementioned custom wound FF42 and PF42 pickups.

It is launching in 15 different colour options and is aimed at the boutique guitar marketplace. Some have solid colour tops, whilst figured maple tops are also an option.

The custom-made bespoke vibrato system with classic Bigsby styling is another highlight of the design and overall, I can see these being popular with guitar players looking for something a little different.

At the time of writing, they are only available in the USA via a few select dealers, but as the brand is currently ‘soft-launching’ that could all change later this year

The prices range from $3,700 to $4,299 depending on the finish options. This could be a brand to watch, as Andy Powers is already a well-established name in the guitar-making industry.

FOMO Fuzz

Last week’s hot news was the limited run Fender Shields Blender pedal for Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine.

Based on a modified Fender Blender Fuzz circuit, this fuzz pedal sounded pretty full-on and messy (in a good way).

USB Drive

The whole release was a masterclass in FOMO marketing and all 700 units sold out in record time.

However, there was a hidden extra layer of marketing hype, as 100 of the pedals came with a hidden USB thumb drive containing new music by Kevin Shields.

The whole debacle was a scalper’s dream and many of these pedals are now up on auction sites for $1000 plus price tags, which is what happens to nearly every limited-run release these days.

The artwork was shared via Yvette’s Instagram account with the following text

This acoustasonic is going off to the lovely @julienrbaker 🐦‍⬛🍃 it was an absolute honor and I hope it brings her much joy and inspiration on and offstage.
It makes me so happy to be able to paint again. I’ve been deep in touring and writing but I’d love to open up guitar and painting commissions again slowly. I think I can handle one a month right now.

Maybe, we could see more cool custom artwork from the Covet guitarist soon?
