Harley Benton SC-Special – a vintage style singlecut with twin P90s
Harley Benton’s new SC-Special is a clear nod to a classic American guitar design. The guitar comes loaded with two P90 pickups and is available in either a TV Yellow or Vintage White finish.
Harley Benton SC-Special
The two-P90s-Singlecut guitar is a standard for many players. The new Harley Benton SC-Special takes this classic ’50s and ’60s design and makes it affordable for all. This model has dual P90 pickups, twin volume and tone controls, and a 3-way toggle switch. Harley Benton has gone with a Roswell P90S-N Alnico-5 in the bridge and a Roswell P90S-N Alnico-5 in the neck position for this model.
Tradition design
The model has a traditional mahogany body and neck, with an Amaranth fretboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and dot inlays. As I mentioned earlier, you can choose from either a satin TV Yellow or a Vintage White finish. Both options are quite vintage and traditional looking, and should please a lot of players looking for a well-priced guitar in this style.
Elsewhere, the hardware is super simple and consists of a WSC wrap around bridge, a vintage-style set of 15:1 ratio tuners, and a three-ply pickguard. They come set up from the factory with a set of D’Addario EXL110 10-46 strings.
At this price point, I think these could be a great buy for players looking for a vintage flavoured P90 guitar, especially as two Alnico 5 P90 pickups can be a wonderful thing through a cooking tube amp. In the right hands, I expect bags of great tones from these guitars.
