Harrison Audio 32Classic MS Mix Strip: Not Your Average Channel Strip
A versatile channel strip for tracking and mixing.
The Harrison Audio 32Classic MS Mix Strip is a channel strip with a transformer-coupled mic pre, a monster EQ section, and flexible routing.
Harrison Audio’s heritage is rooted in the classic 32C recording consoles that Bruce Swedien famously used in the recording of Michael Jackson’s Thriller album. Today, with the weight of SSL behind the company, Harrison is looking to deliver solutions for modern recording workflows.

Starting from the input stage, the 32Classic MS uses a Jensen JT-MB-CPCA transformer in the preamp design, which has both mic and line inputs with independent gain controls. When recording, the mic preamp offers up to 70 dB of gain with what the manufacturer describes as “full low-end, open mid-range, and super-smooth natural highs.“
The extensive 4-band EQ section has variable high-pass (25-3150 Hz) and low-pass (160-20,000 Hz) filters with 3 dB resonant peaks that add plenty of character. Meanwhile, the low and high shelving filters can be switched to bell shapes for added flexibility. Overall, the level of frequency carving potential is immense. This you can add a little colour while tracking, or reshape a sound completely in the mix.
Meanwhile, the output section of the 32Classic MS is equally impressive. The fader section has both pre and post-fader outputs, as well as an insert (send and return) path. In addition, you can also pan the channel internally or adjust the balance after the stereo mix outputs.
The 32Classic MS is also equipped with an internal mix bus, that allows you to build a “sidecar” by chaining up to four units together. This allows you to do summing on your entire project or hardware processing on your vocals, guitars, or drums using the flexibility of the EQ section and insert path for adding more outboard gear.
Although the 32Classic MS does not have a compressor, the chances are that you already have a decent one in your rack if you’re shopping for a channel strip in this price range.
