HEDD Audio unveils the MK2 Monitor Series and new subwoofers
HEDD Audio of Berlin has announced the MK2 series active monitors. In addition to the TYPE 05 MK2, TYPE 07 MK2, TYPE 20 MK2, and TYPE 30 MK2 monitors, the company presents its first subwoofers, the BASS 08 and BASS 12. Talk about going all in!
HEDD Audio MK2 Monitor Series
HEDD Audio is known for the AMT tweeters developed by co-founder Klaus Heinz and popularized by ADAM Audio, which Heinz also co-founded. With the new MK2 Monitor Series, the company has now announced a major upgrade to its line-up of DSP-powered studio monitors.
The basic line-up remains the same, with two 2-way models (TYPE 05 MK2 and TYPE 07 MK2) and two 3-way models (TYPE 20 MK2 and TYPE 30 MK2). HEDD has upgraded the power amplifier in the TYPE 05 MK2 to the same power rating as the TYPE 07 MK2 (2x 100W). All models feature HEDD’s signature AMT tweeter and honeycomb woofers.
According to HEDD, one of the main innovations of the MK2 series is the integration of the HEDD Lineariser. The company says that this phase linearization tool ensures “perfect impulse responses and an audibly improved spatial reproduction”. All models also offer low and high shelf filters, as well as a desk filter designed to deal with reflections from desks and workspaces. In addition to XLR analog inputs, the speakers feature digital AES inputs and passthroughs.
The new MK2 series lets you choose from closed or ported cabinets, so you can adjust the bass response to suit your preferences. The speakers come with removable plugs for the bass ports, combined with DSP-based FIR filtering. By opening or closing the ports and setting the switch at the back accordingly, you can switch between optimum accuracy (closed cabinet) and a dynamic, low-reaching design with increased SPL (ported cabinet).
HEDD Audio BASS 08 and BASS 12 subwoofers
To complement the MK2 Monitor series, HEDD has also announced its first subwoofers. The BASS 08 features an 8-inch woofer, 300 watts of power and a frequency response of 24-80 Hz. The BASS 12 is equipped with a 700W power amplifier and a 12-inch woofer with a frequency response of 20-80 Hz. Like the satellites, the subwoofers let you choose from closed or ported designs by using the foam plugs and adjusting the DSP setting.
The HEDD Lineariser is also available on the subwoofers. According to HEDD, this means that a sub and two monitors can be combined to form a complete linear phase satellite-subwoofer system by applying switchable group delay at the satellite output. The company says that the potential listener distances between subwoofers and satellites can be compensated in a ± 2 m range.

According to HEDD Audio, the TYPE 05 MK2, TYPE 07 MK2, TYPE 20 MK2 and TYPE 30 MK2 monitors will be available in early January 2021. The two subwoofers will follow shortly after that.
