Heritage Audio i73 Pro Series: USB-C Audio Interfaces with 73-style Preamps
The Heritage Audio i73 Pro Series USB-C desktop audio interfaces announced at NAMM 2024 are now shipping! The i73 Pro One, i73 Pro 2 and i73 Pro Edge boast Neve 1073-style preamps and built-in DSP in channel configurations from 2 in / 4 out to 12 in / 16 out – of course in Heritage Audio’s signature design with console-style knobs and buttons.
Heritage Audio i73 Pro Series
Back in January, Heritage Audio surprises us with a new line of audio interfaces. According to the manufacturer, the i73 Pro One, Pro 2, and Pro Edge are the first-ever USB-C audio interfaces with built-in Neve 1073-style Class A transformer-coupled preamps.
The smallest of the three, the i73 Pro One, offers one of these preamps and an additional mono line input for two input channels in total. On the output side, you get a stereo line output for your monitors and a separate headphone output, both of which can be controlled simultaneously using the large dual encoder. The i73 Pro 2 is mostly identical, but offers a second 73-style preamp instead of the line input.
The i73 Pro Edge offers the most versatility with two preamps, two line inputs, an extra pair of line outputs (4 in total), two headphone outputs, and ADAT I/O. This allows you to connect an external converter for up to 12 inputs and 16 outputs in total. All three i73 Pro Series interfaces also feature MIDI I/O on a mini DIN connector.
What’s more, the i73 Pro Series interfaces feature a built-in DSP that runs a suite of included plugins, including emulations of Heritage Audio’s own outboard gear, various guitar amps, and more. These can be inserted into the audio path during tracking using the custom software mixer, which allows you to record the dry and wet signals simultaneously. Heritage Audio calls this “Full Analog Experience”.
The plugins also come in native versions, so you can run them in your DAW, as well. Moreover, there’s a loopback channel for bringing in audio from other applications running on your computer – perfect for streaming or podcasting.
All three Heritage Audio i73 Pro Series audio interfaces feature the manufacturer’s signature design with console-style Marconi gain knobs. They’d surely look great next to a RAM 1000 Monitor Controller! The interfaces are compatible with Windows and macOS and connect via USB-C. However, it looks like they require a separate DC power adapter.

I assume they are good – at that price – but I have a hard time understanding why especially for the two small models the “marketing” videos feature such terrible overbloated insensitive music – that literally blew me away from any wondering I might have had as to whether this was for me – and as I hear it – gives no impression of the aural qualities of the product
Why have they omitted at least one analog insert path so one could hook up a compressor and possibly an eq and then return the signal to the interface pre conversion.
