With the new StompMan, Hughes & Kettner has managed to fit a complete 50 Watt guitar amplifier inside a pedal format. It makes perfect sense in a lot of scenarios, such when you cannot, or do not want to, lug a full-sized amp head with you.

The new Hughes & Kettner StompMan is reduced to the bare essentials. It is based on the brand’s Spirit Tone Generator technology, which gives you a fully analogue circuit that mimics the sound and direct, dynamic feel of traditional tube amplifiers.

Controls
The pedal’s controls consist of Gain, Master, Tone and Sagging, with Presence and Resonance. This gives the StompMan all the amp-like qualities you need, and should make it easy to dial your tones in. You also have footswitches for Bypass / FX Loop and Solo. The Sagging knob adjusts power amp compression at any volume, making it great for many situations.

The perfect pedalboard amp?
The internal preamplifier can be bypassed by means of a bypass function with a trim pot that allows you to remove it before the power amplifier section. Digital modellers, in particular, can also benefit from the organic sound of the power amplifier, without the added colouration of a preamp. You also have an adjustable Solo amount with + 6dB available, on the rear of the pedal. So you can add that amount of boost if required.

Power
The pedal is officially rated at 50 Watts, though it will also do 25 Watts at 8 ohms, and 12.5 Watts at 16 ohms. So you have plenty of options available to you, all of which should be more than loud enough for using in a band scenario. If the AmpMan Classic and Modern are too big for you, and you require something more compact, then this could be the solution you have been looking for.
