Ibanez teases new Ichika Nito ICH10 headless guitar on Instagram
Ibanez is about to unleash new headless guitars
Ibanez has made headless basses, but up until now, the company had never made a production headless guitar. Ibanez just announced the new Quest Series which includes the ICHI10 Ichika Nito signature guitar, and the QX527PB-ABS, Q52 and Q54 models.
Ibanez ICHI10 Ichika Nito
The new signature model for guitarist Ichika Nito, the ICHI10, was announced today via the official Ibanez Instagram, with an accompanying video shared on YouTube. This model has a nyatoh body and a three-piece maple/bubinga neck. It also sports a roasted birdseye maple neck with 24 Jescar EVO Gold frets and mother-of-pearl step offset dot inlays.

“With new developments in instrument technology, the prominence of more technical playing styles, and players’ desire for lighter, more portable instruments, today’s headless guitars are pushing far beyond designs of the past. However, even with all these advancements, Ibanez still saw an exciting opportunity in this space.
“The Q or Quest series is an entirely new concept for Ibanez. The ‘Quest’ in this case was to not just to adapt an existing instrument into a headless design, but to develop an entirely new guitar from the ground up.” Ibanez via Instagram
Ibanez QX527PB-ABS and Q54
Next up are two more headless designs, the QX527PB-ABS and Q54, the former being a 7-string version. The QX527PB-ABS features two Q58 humbuckers, whilst the Q54-BKF has an HSS setup with two R1 single-coil pickups and a Q58 humbucker. Both have 24 frets, plus the new Ibanez monotone bridge and a proprietary string locking mechanism.
The QX527PB also has a nyatoh body, with a poplar burl top and a five-piece roasted maple/bubinga neck. Whilst the Q54-BKF has a plain nyatoh body, with a three-piece neck and maple fretboard.
The Q54 is available in both Black Flat and Sea Foam Green Matte finishes.

Ibanez Q52 and QX54QM
With the Q52 you have a nyatoh body, a Wizard C three-piece roasted maple/bubinga neck and a roasted birdseye maple fingerboard with 24 Jescar Evo Gold frets. This model has the new Q58 humbucker pickups, controlled via a five-way selector switch, master tone knob and master volume knob. Plus an Alter switch offering up to 10 tonal options, using the dyna-MIX10 switching system

Finally, the QX54QM also has roasted birdseye maple fretboard, just this time each of the Jescar EVO Gold frets is equally slanted at an 8-degree angle. Again, you have a nyatoh body, finished in an eye-catching Blue Sphere Burst Matte.

Sorry about that. When the article was originally published we didn’t have all the specs or HQ pics. Ibanez has since mailed us a press release. The article has been updated. Looks like we missed that bit. Thanks for pointing it out!
