Is IK Multimedia about to drop AmpliTube 5?
An alien invasion or Amplitube 5?
Could there be a new version of Ik Multimedia’s popular virtual guitar rig software AmpliTube on the horizon? Well, the company has a teaser on their page showing a guitar pick-shaped ‘V’ floating over a planet with a release date of 29 October.
IK Multimedia AmpliTube 5?
The teaser video certainly points towards something ‘guitar-like’, as that floating V is very plectrum-like. And it will also have been exactly five years since the release of AmpliTube 4, which also came out on 29 October. We took bets here at the Gearnews office, and the current runner for the win is a new guitar related piece of software (though Bob did mention something about alien conspiracies and ambient handbags…).
I’ve used the AmpliTube software since it first came out and so I am definitely hoping that this teaser is indicative of something along the lines of Version 5. Or beyond that even, such as the recent Joe Satriani and Brian May AmpliTube add-ons that were both, in my opinion, excellent. You can read my first impressions of the Satriani bundle here, which I thought was really well done and offered great value for money. If it’s good enough for Satch, then who am I to argue?
29 October
I guess we’ll all just have to wait 72 hours to see what is on offer here. Hopefully it isn’t an alien invasion, I think 2020 has already had enough worldwide insanity for one year. Fingers crossed it’s AmpliTube 5 and not Bob’s ambient handbag invasion…

One response to “Is IK Multimedia about to drop AmpliTube 5?”
I’m this close (fingers close together) to uninstalling Amplitube v4 although I have quite a few expansions.
It’s as fiddly as Guitar Rig 5 plus I can get by using very simple virtual amps such as Bassdude (hate the name but it sounds fine) and the Chandler one from Plugin Alliance.
Will probably get Iridium sooner or later and call it a day.
(Yeah, right)
