iZotope & Exponential Audio
In 2019, the two companies joined forces with the Cambridge, MA-based iZotope acquiring the latter’s entire product line. At the time, Exponential Audio was a leader in digital reverb development with flagship products including R4, PhoenixVerb Surround, and Symphony.
They were mostly used in the film space and surround audio realms, and they are still a stronghold in the field. However, founder and reverb expert Michael Carnes joined iZotope as a Research Fellow to continue building products under the iZotope – now Soundwide – umbrella. In the meantime, existing Exponential Audio plug-ins get to keep their brand name with software and customer support handled by iZotope.
When it comes to Exponential reverbs, products like PhoenixVerb, NIMBUS, R2, and R4 are best suited towards music production with their intuitive controls and penchant for depth and shimmer.
Meanwhile, Excalibur offers several LFO-driven modulation effects to imaginitive sound designers.
