Jacob Collier, MiniFreak & Uno Synth Pro X: Sounds to Inspire!
Jacob Collier Audience Choir
Now, this Grammy award-winning musician brings us a new instrument in conjunction with Native Instruments. The Jacob Collier Audience Choir does exactly what it says on the tin. During his live shows, Jacob gets the audience to become an instrument themselves. Dividing them into distinct sections, he conducts them to sing certain notes, conducting them to form chords and shifting pitches.
It’s quite a wonder to behold and now we can all have a go ourselves, courtesy of this new sample library. Audio from numerous shows around the world has been captured and processed in Kontakt. This has then been mapped with some clever scripting to deliver a fun set of intriguing vocal patches.
You can play four variations of the choir, singing Ee, Oo, Ah and Mm sounds. Furthermore, you can automate the switch between these four variations. There’s a surprising amount of extra control that you can apply, including effects, filters and stereo width.
Oh, and did I say this library is free? It’s available for both the free Kontakt Player and the full version of Kontakt. Once installed, it only occupies about 193MB of space too! Just head over to the Native Instruments website, sign in to your account and add the library. Native Access handles the download and install for you.
Marc Barnes Expressions Vol.1 for IK Multimedia UNO Synth Pro X
By exposing virtually all the controls in a ‘knob-per-function’ design and disposing of the keyboard, IK Multimedia have finally got the UI right. The engine has always been there, even with the original UNO Synth. The UNO Synth Pro took it further, but still had a clunky interface.
The UNO Synth Pro X now feels ‘right’. It’s a powerful analog synth that can complement so many other instruments. And because it’s compact, it can sit atop almost any other keyboard and give you some ral variety to your performance.
And now Scottish sound designer Marc Barnes has released his first bank for a synth he himself admits he’s fallen deeply in love with. Expressions Vol.1 is a collection of superb sounds that use all of the aspects of the UNO Synth Pro X.
Covering all styles and genres, Marc has assembled a collection of really useful patches that show off how good the UNO Synth Pro X is. Check out the demos in the video below.
Expressions Vol.1 launches at just £9.99 for the month of March and will go up to £11.99 thereafter. Head on over to Marc’s website to order and download. And while you’re there, check out his patches for synths like the ASM Hydrasynth, MODAL Cobalt8 and all of the new KORG gear, including the wavestate, opsix and modwave.
Luke Million LM Vintage Keys for Arturia MiniFreak
Luke has recently started creating content to sell on his website and late last year he released a free bank of sounds for Arturia’s amazing MiniFreak. Such was the success of this free bank that he has now created a ‘Deluxe Edition’ to sell for a mere Fifteen Australian Dollars!
Using his vintage collection as inspiration, Luke has put together 50 solid patches that deliver a vintage synth feel. They take advantage of MiniFreak’s superb macro controls so that each patch has a broad range of timbres.
The bonus of these sounds is that they’re also fully compatible with MiniFreak V, the software version of this amazing synth. In fact, you will need MiniFreak V installed to push these sounds to the hardware. But as MiniFreak hardware owners get MiniFreak V for free, this won’t be an issue.
Visit Luke’s website to purchase and download the LM Vintage Keys Sound Bank as well as the free bank too! The Deluxe Bank is $15 AUD, which equates to about £8 GBP. Whilst you are there, check out his two drum machine sample packs. He’s sampled and E-MU SP12 and Oberheim DMX in good detail and also supplies Ableton Live drum maps with them.
