Jam Pedals Octaurus Octafuzz: Plus, Limited Run NOS Edition
Hand-wired Octafuzz from Jam Pedals
The new Octaurus by Jam Pedals is an octafuzz that they state is far more than just a one-trick pony! They also have the Octaurus NOS if you want a version with new old stock components.
Octaurus
Boutique pedal manufacturer Jam Pedals has announced the release of their latest creation, the Octaurus, an octafuzz effect pedal designed with versatility and creative exploration in mind.
The pedal boasts a range of innovative features intended to provide guitarists with an expansive sonic palette. Key among these is the pedal’s ability to deliver a clear apparent octave across all pickup positions, ensuring distinct and articulate octave-up tones.
It features dedicated Level, Tone, and Gain knobs, plus a full range or mid-scooped voicing toggle-switch and a clipping switch.
Clarity
Furthermore, the fuzz effect is engineered to maintain the retained note body throughout the instrument’s register, preventing the often-thin sound associated with octave effects and preserving the fundamental richness of each note.
Volume Control
One particularly intriguing feature is the volume roll-back magic, allowing players to achieve a ring-modulator-like effect simply by reducing their guitar’s volume.
Crucially, this functionality is designed to work without compromising the clarity of double stops or fundamental musical intervals.
Clipping
Jam Pedals has incorporated both symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping options via the dedicated clipping switch. Symmetrical clipping offers tightness and precise definition, while the asymmetrical mode delivers a looser and more dynamically responsive feel.
Octaurus NOS
Then there is the Octaurus NOS, which uses NOS silicon transistors and germanium diodes that define its sought-after predecessor, the sold-out Octaurus LTD.
Full-bodied Fuzz
It is designed to deliver bold, full-bodied octave fuzz tones, capable of producing everything from searing leads that cut through any mix to thunderous chords with exceptional weight and clarity.
Players can also expect unparalleled touch sensitivity, allowing for a dynamic and expressive playing experience.
Aimed at fuzz aficionados and anyone who likes more exclusive pedal releases.
Limited Run
This version will be a limited run, due to the limited supply of new-old stock silicon transistors and germanium diodes.
Verdict
Both versions of the pedal sound very good and they have solved a few of the niggling issues of vintage octafuzz pedals. Well, worth checking out if you love fuzz pedals!
The standard version is priced at €259, and the NOS edition is €339.
