Jason Isbell Red Eye – Accurate ’59 Les Paul
The Gibson Jason Isbell Red Eye Limited Run 59 Les Paul is based on the guitar once owned by Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd. There are only 59 guitars, each priced at over $20k!
Jason Isbell Red Eye
This new Gibson Custom Shop limited-run Jason Isbell Red Eye 59 Les Paul Standard is a detailed recreation of the guitar once owned by Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Ed King.
Gibson is only making 59 of them, and they feature a Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Due to CITES paperwork, they will probably never make it outside of the USA.
Why Red Eye?
It is called Red Eye, as the guitar’s original red colouring (while it was displayed in a store window) had faded and left a distinctive pattern. As only a small patch below the toggle switch, protected by a hangtag, was still a vibrant red colour.
Custom Shop
The Gibson Custom Shop original instrument has recreated the guitar by using 3D scanning technology and the services of the Murphy Lab‘s aging techniques. Jason Isbell was also involved in the creation process by hand-selecting the figured maple tops for the guitars in this run.
Unique Serial Numbers
All 59 guitars come with a certificate of authenticity and a unique collector’s number (numbered 1 through 59) alongside the original “Red Eye” serial number (9 0891) on the rear of the headstock.
’59 Specifications
Each guitar comes fitted with a pair of Custombucker unpotted humbucking pickups and has all the age-appropriate hardware for a modern Gibson ’59 recreation. Expect some choice of tonewoods for the mahogany back and neck, Brazillian rosewood fretboard, and the selected figured maple tops.
$20 plus!
They also come with a host of case candy to sweeten the deal, though each limited-run guitar costs north of $20k. These guitars aimed at collectors will probably sell out to anyone who appreciates 1959 Les Paul Standard recreations.
