Joyo has expanded its range of affordable compact amps with the BSK-60, a 2-channel portable amp designed for street musicians. The new amp is much larger than the existing Joyo micro amps like the BanTamP range and MA-10, both in terms of wattage and feature set.

With a full 60 Watts of power this acoustic amp can not only keep up with a drummer on stage, but thanks to the rechargeable lithium battery you can run it without being tethered to mains electricity. Joyo says one charge will last you 4 hours.

The generously equipped control panel covers two channels, a Guitar channel and a Mic channel. The guitar channel can do all sorts of things: beyond the obligatory 3-band EQ there’s also a phase switch as well as chorus, delay (with tap tempo!) and reverb effects. There’s even an anti-feedback control. A slight disappointment is that this channel only has a TRS jack input.

Channel 2 has Volume, Bass, treble and reverb controls. Pretty much all you need to dial in a vocal sound.

But we’re not done with the feature list yet. There are some killer features still waiting to be discovered. In addition to the usual connections for XLR-Out, Line-In/Out, there is an additional Line Out in mini-jack format. Joyo praises this as a built-in interface to send your signal for further processing by a smart phone or tablet. You could, for example, open Amplitube on the iPhone and sound like Brian May!

Power and Looper

Then there is a built-in 9V/500mA DC output that allows you to power your effects units. As if that were not enough, the BSK-60 also has an integrated looper! And the supplied footswitch lets you reach down to adjust the effects and volume without having to turn around away from the audience and fiddle about with the amp. Nice. The footswitch also lets you toggle mute status, activate feedback suppression and switch on the looper. On the bottom there’s also a little stand to let you angle the amp upwards for better projection. But you can also mount it on a tripod.

Rounding out the features is a Bluetooth connection to let you play along to backing tracks.

This is a feature-packed amp that’s well worth checking out, in my humble opinion.

RRP – USD 420
