Kemper Profiler gets dirty with OS 8.0, adds new Kemper Drive pedal modelling system
Maker of perhaps the best-regarded amp modelling system on the planet, Kemper has just announced a new PROFILER OS 8.0 update which a new gadget the German company is calling the Kemper Drive. It’s a new overdrive pedal modelling module based on classics like the Klon Centaur and the Marshall Bluesbreaker MK1, to name a few. Is this a gritty, more versatile new direction for the Pr0filer?
Profiler OS 8.0
The latest Kemper update brings a whole new overdrive section, including tones based on these well-known overdrive pedals:
- Ibanez / Maxon TS808, TS9
- Klon Centaur
- Horizon Precision Drive
- Boss OD-1, SD-1
- Analogman King Of Tone
- Timmy Overdrive
- Marshall Bluesbreaker MK1
Public Beta
Launched as a Public Beta, the Profiler OS 8.0 and its new Overdrive System promises to be pretty epic. But marketing aside, it is always good to have more drive options at your disposal, so from that point of view I think it is a useful update.
Distortion Coming
This new update includes 20 presets inspired by Klon, Bluesbreaker et al. Kemper says the system will also see an OCD-inspired distortion, as well. Kemper’s announcement refers to a major upcoming addition focused on distortion sound in the next round of updates, so there’s more dirt on the horizon. Although the tones demo’d in the short video sound pretty darn good, the crucial aspect will be the system’s ability to depict the dynamics and behaviour of those pedals with the same hyper-realism as the amps and cabs.
The official, fully supported version will be available soon, so keep your eyes peeled for it on the Kemper website. For now you can check out he demo video below to hear what all the fuss is about.
