KMA Machines Mandrake Octo-Shrieker is the latest effect pedal from the German pedal company.
Mandrake Octo-Shrieker
KMA Machines Mandrake Octo-Shrieke is based on a refined and improved version of the Shriek circuit from the company’s MOAI MAEA * pedal. Offering an analogue upper octave effect with what they describe as ultra-fast tracking.
It includes a discrete transistor-based fuzz, with what KMA describes as enhanced rectification circuit topology. This they say will offer a more robust and present upper-octave.

Controls
The pedal features controls for Filter, Timbre on full-sized knobs, along with Dry and Oct+ mini knobs. It looks pretty simple to dial in and could be a lot of fun to use at high volume.
The Filter control is going to be really useful when switching from single-coil guitars to humbuckers. It controls an active, pre-gain 2nd-order filter section to match your guitar’s output. Whereas the Timbre control is used for adjusting and shaping the octave-up voice.
Dry blends the clean and effected signal, and Oct+ adds more of the octave effect.
It is a true bypass circuit design and uses silent relay-based soft switching. It has top-mounted jacks and powers from a 9V power supply and requires 30mA.

Verdict
This could be a great fuzz/upper octave effect and the controls are just complex enough to control the octave effect. Without it becoming awkward to dial in. Ideally, with fuzz/octave effects simple control layouts work best.
Looks like it will do the job nicely and the video demo sounds pretty good. KMA Machines make some really nice effects and this latest offering fits nicely into their lineup.
