Korg buys Darkglass Electronics
Korg now owns a majority interest in Darkglass Electronics
Korg has bought the Finnish manufacturer of bass effect pedals and bass amps Darkglass Electronics. By acquiring a majority interest in the brand, they now essentially own it.
Korg buys Darkglass Electronics
Korg has been distributing Darkglass Electronics’ effect pedals and bass amps in the USA and Canada since 2019. So the companies have known each other for a while.
Having worked with Korg USA for many years and seeing first-hand their incredible work empowering the brands that have joined their group, I do not doubt that they will help fulfill all these ambitions and beyond. – Douglas Castro, head of Darkglass, who founded the company in 2009
Korg add to their portfolio
Most people certainly know Korg from their synthesizers, but brands like Vox and ARP also belong to the Japanese-US company. Along with Aguilar and Spector which are brands, we would all associate with bass.
This acquisition is aligned with our strategy to position Korg USA as a leader in the bass gear category. We have developed a deep admiration for the brand’s cutting-edge reputation of being innovative and player-centric.
Korg USA is proud to invest in the future of Darkglass, and we are excited to share their products with the music community, alongside our other respected brands. – Joe Castronovo, President of Korg USA
Is this a good match?
I am certainly no expert, though I can see that Korg’s distribution network, infrastructure and buying power would certainly help develop a brand like Darkglass Electronics. Plus, they have worked together for a few years now and so the relationship between the two parties is already established.
Products like the recent Exponent e500 could well flourish under a company like Korg, so this could be a great move. If you haven’t seen the e500 then check it out in the demo video below.

One response to “Korg buys Darkglass Electronics”
One brand is now acquired by another. But honestly, does it counts any for bass players?
Korg guys are good in the marketing. Sometimes they put in a schematic a tube valves for a light-up and VU-meter for enjoyment.
Can these Microtubes and Nu:Tube be reliable path? That’s the question and pain in the bass.
