Korg released the analogue modelling MicroKORG synthesizer back in 2002 and it’s been enjoyed ever since as a cool entry level mini-synth. The new version brings a new look, new sounds and more portability for making music on the move. It’s been a bumper release day for Korg!

MicroKORG S

What does the S stand for? Probably it’s to do with the speakers. The MicroKORG S comes with a built into the bottom 2+1 speaker system. The stereo speakers sit under the keyboard while the woofer takes advantage of the main body. They say you can feel the sound vibrating through your fingertips.

On the sound front there’s a whole new bank of 64 sounds in addition to the original 128 plus room for 64 user presets. You can also now store your favourite patches in a “Favourite Select” bank for instant recall.

The white livery and maple cheeks make for a distinctive look if a little prone to grubby fingermarks.

Otherwise it’s the MicroKORG we know and love.

It should be available in September for the less than entry level price of $499.
