Kuassa Caliburn: A bargain Marshall amp plug-in suite
JCM800 and JCM900 plugin for your DAW
A while ago, Kuassa introduced the Cerberus Bass Amp, which our German sister site was very favourably impressed with. Now Kuassa has released a set of Marshall amp simulations for us guitarists, at a very decent price.
Kuassa Caliburn
The Caliburn sounds were inspired by classic Marshall amplifiers (JCM800 and JCM900) and implemented using Kuassa’s in-house modelling engine. The amp set-up is very simple: 3-band EQ + Presence, Gain and Master. There is also a slider for Bias and Sag (the opposite of Bias). On the left are two toggle switches: Amp A, B and C and Channel 1 and 2, denoting Clean and Lead.
JCM800 and JCM900
All in all, the Caliburn sounds pretty good. The fact they they also include Noise Gate, Filters (HP, LP), Limiter, Input Trim, Oversampling (1-8x) makes it easier to use when recording into your DAW.
This plug-in comes in Windows and macOS flavours, supporting VST, VST3, AU and AAX. There’s also a standalone version in 32- and 64-bit versions. So there is something for everyone, especially considering the introductory price, which is more then reasonable for what you get. Hell, even at full price it’s still a bargain.
Kuassa Caliburn RRP – USD 49 with and introductory price of USD 35
