Kush Omega Transformer Model TWK: Tweaker-style saturation for your tracks
Kush has added the Omega Transformer Model TWK to its line-up of plug-ins. It emulates the op-amps in the company’s own Tweaker hardware compressor, hence the name “TWK”. The developer claims that the Model TWK produces “some of the smoothest, most 70’s tape-like saturation you’ve ever heard from a plugin”.
Kush by UBK: Omega Transformer Model TWK
Model TWK is the latest addition to the Kush Omega Transformer series of plug-ins, after the Omega Transformer Model 458A, Model A and Model N. They’re designed to complement the company’s 500 series Omega preamp, but also work on their own. The 458A is a tube emulation, while the Model A and Model N are inspired by API and Neve consoles, respectively. The new Model TWK adds another flavour to this line-up: that of the transistors in Kush’s own Tweaker compressor.
According to Kush, Model TWK is a saturator and distortion generator modeled after an overdriven chain of ’70s op-amps. The developer says that while its “dirty, slow sound” lends itself to all sorts of signals, it works especially well on the mix buss. By “lightly grinding” each of the distortion stages, it produces a “smooth, thick and slighty dark saturation”, Kush claims. They also say that Model TWK can go from subtle to aggressive rather quickly, being a bit less forgiving than its siblings. The plug-in’s controls are simple: There’s a large intensity knob, flanked by phase and pad buttons. It also offers input and output level knobs.
Price and compatibility
Like the other three Omega Transformer plug-ins, Model TWK can be purchased outright for USD 29. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the OG Kush Complete Bundle, which includes all of the Omegas, the AR-1 and all other Kush plug-ins, for USD 9.99 per month or 99.99 per year. A 10-day free trial version is also available. Model TWK works on Windows 8 or higher and Mac OS X 10.9 or higher. It comes in VST, AU and AAX formats (64 bit only).
