Launch into a larger world with MIDI Sync option for Novation’s iOS Launchpad
Launchpad for iOS is a natty little remixing and beat messing app that’s been giving iPad musicians a good time for a couple of years. It gives you an 8×6 grid packed full of samples, beats and melody lines, filters, mixing and a great bunch of instant effects. They’ve released sound packs to expand the possibilities and keep it interesting, and it’s a lot of fun to use. Now they are adding MIDI Sync to help it play with other apps and other hardware.
The basic app is completely free but the additional sounds and some of the more useful added features appear as in-app purchases. You want to import your own samples? That’s fine, for GBP £2.29 you can add the Audio Import feature. The MIDI Sync is the same deal, for GBP £2.29 you can have Launchpad keep time with, or dictate time to, a larger setup. This could mean other internal apps or other external noise makers such as their own Novation Circuit – actually that’s a great way to add a sampler to a Circuit-based setup. Launchpad already works with Audiobus but this additional feature allows it to sync other apps to its tempo as well as share audio.
The MIDI Sync option is available now by hitting the “MIDI Sync” button from the top menu in the Launchpad app itself.
