LEGO SL-1200

Unless you’re big into LEGO you might not know that there’s an active community of amateur builders trying to get their ideas made into actual products. After submitting them to a site called LEGO Ideas, people can vote on them. If they get enough supporters (10,000 are needed) it can become a boxed set sold at stores.

Tomasso Builds – real name Tamás Borján – has submitted a LEGO version of the Technics SL-1200 MK2 turntable. His block replica looks pretty good. It contains about 2215 pieces, according to the page, including an adjustable pitch slider, working tone arm, adjustable balance weight and anti-skating knob, removable 45 RPM adapter and more.

LEGO SL-1200: Moving Platter

The really cool thing though is this LEGO SL-1200 has a real moving platter, with a built-in motor to make it spin. Yes, you can use the Stop/Start button to engage the motor.

The platter is not full-size but it is large enough to hold a seven-inch record. Check out the mini slipmat on the platter in the video below.

LEGO SL-1200: The Pitch

“This is arguably the most iconic and recognizable turntable ever made,” says Tomasso Builds on the page. “It would be a cool addition to any DJ’s, music lover’s, or technology enthusiast’s display collection. It is a historical piece that has shaped the world we live in.” No doubt.

As of the time of publishing, the LEGO SL-1200 had 142 supporters with 422 days left on the countdown.

This is not Tomasso’s first DJ-centric LEGO build. He’s also done a Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus, DJM 900 Nexus, Sennheiser HD 25 headphones and KRK Rokit 7 G4s. See them and more on his Instagram page.

Wow, the LEGO SL-1200 is absolutely impressive! The fact that it has a working platter and all those functional features really sets it apart. It’s clear a lot of thought and effort went into this build. I can’t wait to see if it gets enough votes to become a real set!
