Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 is here, with 12th-gen Intel CPUs
With MWC 2022 currently on the go, some manufacturers have taken the opportunity to launch new products or update existing ranges. Lenovo has done just that by launching the latest version of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme laptop. With a focus on performance, it supports a 12th-gen Intel Core i9 H-Series CPU and the latest NVIDIA GeForce mobile graphics cards.
Features of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5
Built to perform sustainably, the internal design features a vapor chamber cooling system with integrated liquid metal thermal paste. Apparently, this gives the machine a 10% performance increase according to Lenovo. We’ll take their word on that, but more importantly this new ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 can be equipped with up to 64GB DDR5 RAM and 8TB of SSD storage. This gives it more than enough muscle to perform in a demanding studio or stage environment, although this also depends on the software configuration and the choice of DAW and OS versions. Dolby standards pop up at every turn with Dolby Voice AI noise canceling, Dolby Atmos speakers, and Dolby Vision display support.
Displays go up to 16-inch with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 165Hz refresh rate. Touchscreen support is also an option with QHD+ display configurations. We can expect the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 in June at a starting price of $2,049 which puts this on the higher end of the market but still makes it one of the best high-performance non-gaming laptops around. Lenovo has also launched the more executive ThinkPad T16, as well as the 14-inch ThinkVision M14d mobile monitor. The ThinkVision display weighs less than 1.3 pounds (600g) and starts at $299, making it a very useful addition to your mobile production setup.
