This year’s CES isn’t just about AI fridges, foldable screens, floor-cleaning robots, and an endless array of televisions. There are also oddball products like the LG PF600U. It’s a combination of a Bluetooth speaker, a lamp and a projector. Because, why not!
LG PF600U: lamp, speaker, and projector in one
The device’s design could have come from Teenage Engineering or IKEA, but it’s LG that created it. While it is one thing to cross a projector with a Bluetooth speaker, to then add a mood lamp... that’s just different.
And that’s exactly what LG’s PF600U does. It combines it all while looking like a floor lamp, although it looks a lot like a pedestal fan. So what is it, then? The product, now presented at the Consumer Electronics Show, was developed for the living room and has already won the CES Innovation Award.
As many devices these days, it can be operated via iOS or Android, since the PF600U runs on the manufacturer’s webOS. USB-C and HDMI are also available as connections. The projector itself delivers Full HD resolution with a brightness of 300 ANSI lumens, and the image diagonal goes up to 120 inches. So, it’s no surprise that this 3-in-1 device does not come close to today’s pro projectors – but high-end users are certainly not the target group here.
How much does the mood projector speaker lamp cost?
Unfortunately, there is no reliable information about the price yet. But this type of gadget very much looks like it’s going to be in the lower segment. Let’s hope so because the LG PF600U would certainly do well in a (home) studio, replacing a few lava lamps. Besides, wouldn’t it be cool to have a few visuals or a film playing in the background while making music? And yes, you can even listen to music with it!
LG brands itself as the “top provider of lifestyle projectors”, which could be read as: we’re not making the best projectors, but the most stylish ones. And isn’t having a stylish studio room something to aim for? Where you can switch between mood-setting lights, your favorite horror movie and some beats from your friends?
