Line 6 Helix 3.1 adds Mandarin Rocker amp, effects and better oversampling
Even more effects and a new amp mode, along with some tweak should make Helix sound even better than before!
Line 6 has just quietly dropped a new Helix firmware update! V3.1 adds more features to the already powerful virtual guitar rig and effects processor.
Line 6 Helix 3.1 firmware
The latest Line 6 Helix firmware 3.1 update adds the new Mandarin Rocker amp, based on an Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII as well as five new effects. The first effect is the Ratatouille Dist which is based on a 1984 ProCo RAT, and the Retro Reel – a Line 6 original effect based on an analogue tape machine. Then there’s the Euclidean Delay based on Euclidean algorithms to create multi-tap patterns by setting the length of the pattern and the number of taps. Finally, Line 6 adds two new reverbs, the Dynamic Hall and Hot Springs. Having more reverb options at your disposal is always welcome.
Increased Oversampling Throughout
The Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, Helix Native, HX Effects, HX Stomp and HX Stomp XL should benefit from higher fidelity, fewer aliasing artefacts and smoother decay trails thanks to increased oversampling with the 3.1 firmware update. And all the amps and effects models have been optimised to accommodate these improvements, but without increasing DSP usage. Nice.
Customisable Stomp Switches & Snapshot Switches
Both the HX Stomp and HX Stomp XL now have customisable foot switches, which brings them both up to the same standard as the rest of the Helix family. Plus, they can now all use the snapshot switches feature was well. That’s a nice feature update which puts all the hardware units on the same level of user friendliness and ease of use.
More updates
The tuner screen now has a new Trails parameter. When set to on, the delay repeats and reverbs’ decay continue to ring out and even the Looper keeps running when the tuner is engaged. Line 6 has also added new parameters to many of the effects introduced in the previous 3.00 firmware update.
YouTuber johnnathancordy was, as usual, one of the first to upload a good overview of the new 3.1 firmware update. It’s worth checking that out if you have time. As ever, make sure you back up all your custom patches before you run any updates and have the HX Edit 3.10 before you install the 3.10 firmware.
